For our Fermentation and Distillation Department, we are looking for a Distillery Operator who is responsible for the safe operation and monitoring of the distillation, fermentation, molasses pre-treatment and utilities systems of the new F&D Plant.
The candidate we are looking for will be responsible for the following core duties:
- Starting up, operating and monitoring the molasses pre-treatment system (pre-fermentation) as well as the temperatures in the fermenters to ensure the fermentation of the mash is completed.
- Adjusting process variables such as temperature, pressure and flow rate to optimize proper yeast propagation and fermentation.
- Monitoring and interpreting process data from control systems (SCADA) to identify deviations and take corrective action.
- Starting up, operating, shutting down and monitoring distillation columns, pumps and associated equipment.
- Monitoring and, where necessary, adjusting the water softeners to ensure a soft water supply for the steam boilers and cooling installations.
- Identifying and resolving minor faults and reporting larger technical issues to maintenance technicians.
- Regularly carrying out quality checks on raw materials and finished products by taking samples for analysis according to established standards.
- Following all safety procedures and regulations relating to handling hazardous materials and operating distillation, fermentation and utility systems.
- Performing routine maintenance checks on distillation, fermentation and utility systems.
- Keeping detailed logs of operational data, such as process parameters, quality checks and deviations.
- Preparing reports on production volumes, product quality and operational issues.
- Monitoring stock levels of raw materials and ensuring sufficient availability for production.
- Managing the storage and transfer of finished products.
Some requirements for this role:
- Vocational diploma (NATIN/AMTO) in chemistry, process technology or mechanical engineering.
- Good knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry and chemical processes.
- Familiarity with distillation techniques and equipment.
- Experience with process control systems (SCADA) is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and safety procedures.
- Accuracy and strong analytical skills.
- Technical insight and problem-solving ability in the event of equipment failures.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
- Willingness to work shifts and cope with a demanding work environment.
- Knowledge of HSEQ standards: ISO 9001, 14001, FSC 22000 and other QC standards is a plus.
- Administrative work experience (Navision, Word and Excel) is a plus
