History of the Rumhuis

Residence by Ir. P.J. Nagel
Architectural Heritage
The Surinaamsch Rumhuis is housed in a 1953 residence with a distinctive character, designed by renowned Dutch architect Ir. Peter Jacobus Nagel. It was the first residential home he designed. His notable works include the Torarica Hotel, the Surinaamsche Bank, and the monumental central post office.
Acquisition by SAB
On September 16, 1991, the property was acquired by SAB N.V. Today, the Surinaamsch Rumhuis is located in this nostalgic setting.
Official Opening
Opened on December 10, 2010, the Rumhuis added a new dimension to SAB, aligning perfectly with Suriname’s rapidly growing tourism.
More than a calling card
In a short time, the Rumhuis established itself as a provider of a unique product. It has grown into a multifunctional rum establishment where the experience of The Rumway of life is central.
Located on the banks of the Suriname River, you immediately experience the perfect fusion between authentic Surinamese and Caribbean atmosphere.
